Developing & Managing Your Group
Running an effective voluntary or community organisation starts with sound governance. In this two-hour virtual session you will explore the fundamentals of roles, responsibilities and legal structures, ensuring your group is compliant, transparent and set up for growth. We begin by mapping the different legal forms available to VCSE organisations and highlighting the advantages and limitations of each. You will then work through typical trustee, director and volunteer duties, using real-life scenarios to spot common pitfalls and establish robust decision-making processes.
Next, our facilitator June Obi (CEE) guides you through a rapid compliance audit covering Charity Commission filings, Companies House returns, data protection and safeguarding. Practical checklists help you benchmark current practice and agree immediate priorities. The session closes with a short clinic on drafting or updating governing documents, policies and risk registers – all essentials for grant readiness and stakeholder confidence. Throughout, discussion rooms allow you to compare experiences with peer organisations across the East Midlands and build supportive networks.
